Joplin, Mo.

November 19th, 2019 by Marissa Montano
On Tuesday night the Lady Ambassadors defeated the Randall University Women’s Basketball team with a final score of 75 to 74. Coach Wicklund, head coach for the Lady Ambassadors, expressed his excitement for the big win. The Ambassadors started the game by taking the lead and scoring just a minute into the game. It was clear that the ladies came out ready to play and it showed on the court all night. They displayed powerful defense, great energy, and teamwork throughout the game. Beating Randall, a consistent top 10 team, left Coach Wicklund feeling immensely proud of his team for the way they went out and competed with heart. He stated that the Lady Ambassadors, “ran the court very well, advanced the ball up the court and distributed it very well to one another”.
Although they played a great game, there were a few things they could improve on. Coach Wicklund mentioned that they will be focusing on “free throws” in practice to make sure his team is hitting those shots when given the opportunity. He added, “Not every game will be a good shooting night, so we have to make sure we are able to make our free throws” Free throws are very important in the game of basketball and can often determine the result of a game.
The Lady Ambassadors were led in scoring by Adreonna Hughes, a 5’8 Senior guard for the Lady Ambassadors. According to Coach Wicklund, she was challenged by the coaches for this big game. He went on to say how “she definitely stuck out tonight and stepped up to the challenge”.
An intense game for the Lady Ambassadors tonight showed that the Ambassador fans should feel excitement for what is to come in their future games. Follow their journey for their 2019-2020 season and cheer them on to more big victories!
